Memorial Day
May 26th, 2007 by Anand
With the current political environment in the US, especially the war in Iraq has made this Memorial Day a very important day for major presidential hopefuls and where they stand on the issue.
This week the major bill on the Hill was about the War funding bill that was passed by the senate after various ifs and buts that were added after long negotiations between the Democrats (Who control the Congress) and the Republicans (especially the White House). Hillary & Obama were ridiculed by Romney, Giuliani & McCain for voting against the war spending Bill. Rosie O’Donnell was let go from ABC’s Morning The View talk show after a heated argument with her co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on the Iraq war (video). Their is a big difference in opinion everywhere.
This being the official start of Summer, many tourist head to DC . Many of our folks skip visiting Arlington Cemetery . I know we dont visit cemetery in Hinduism , well think this something to India Gate in New Delhi dedicated to All the Indian soldiers who laid their lives in protecting our Great nation. Same is with Arlington Cemetery, to all the known and unknow soldiers who laid their life in protecting this great nation. So if you have 1/2 a day to spare do visit Arlington Cemetery (A short walk from the Lincoln Memorial ) and see the Change of Guard (video) that happens every 30 minutes @ the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier .
Noted Memorials @ the Cemetery:
- JFK & Family Memorial
- RFK Memorial
- Tomb of the Unkown soliders
Even though we all have different options on Military conflicts, Let us take a moment and respect the soliders who laid their lifes and who are protecting each and every life on this planet. To all the men in military uniform, we are proud of you !!!
A & A Diary - Our Thoughts, off course in our own style
On this day..
