Shopping at IKEA

  • 5 cents for using their clear plastic bag.
  • 59 cents for the stronger-reinforced-reusable plastic bag called the “Blue Bag” or
  • BYOB (Bring-your-own-bag)

I was expecting this move from Ikea long time back when I saw people using as many bags for small items and some folks replacing their normal garbage bags with IKEA bags. A very good move in reducing environmental footprints.

Our local whole foods give us a credit of 5 cents for the bags that we bring to pick our grocery (Average 10 cents per shopping trip). I expect more & more stores in joining this strategy in making people re-use their shopping bags and reduce the plastic waste.

Many would say why I should pay for shopping @ your place. I would rather prefer Ikea to give a 5 or 10 cent refund every time you bring your own bag for shopping, the way Whole foods does.
