@ 5 its news, @ 6 its history

That’s how fox advertises for its Evening News. Even though we receive news every 30 minutes or so through CCN headlines, Fox News & New feeds, the World news between 6.30 PM and 7.30 PM is still considered as a prime job in today’s TV news segment.
I had been a long time favorite of Peter Jennings & ABC World News Tonight. I remember his calm posture during the Sept 11th tragedy, presenting in a very calm manner the truth & facts. I still can’t believe that he died because of smoking, which he had quit a decade back. His untimely date created a vacuum in ABC evening news and left a big question on who would be the next anchor for the World News Tonight program. I personally felt Charlie Gibson would be the right person to anchor the show as he was a quite a known figure in the evening show and hosted it whenever Peter took time off. Apart from doing the guest anchor role he was also co-hosting the morning show fulltime. Ultimately the job went to Bob Woodruff & Elizabeth Vargas. Few months back Bob was seriously injured in Iraq while covering for the evening news. Later Diane sawyer co-hosted with Elizabeth but it didn’t get them much the needed popularity.
Finally ABC decided that Charlie Gibson was the right person for the show and announced that he would be the new anchor and only anchor. I think Charlie would bring in a good viewer for the program after Peter passed away. Brian Williams of NBC Evening News would be a big competitor.
Today was the last show for Elizabeth as anchor for “World News Tonight”. Wishing Elizabeth the best in her family life & the new role in 20/20 program. Wishing Bob a speedy recovery.Welcome Charlie. Congrats!!! We are looking for a great program from you. Good luck!!!
