Men In Black

December 25th, 2005 by Anand

Wait, I am not talking of MIB-1 or MIB-2 movie review, but something interesting that I noticed during my visit to an upscale restaurant for Aparna’s birthday over the weekend.

To celebrate my dear wife’s birthday, I decided to take her out for a wonderful dinner to a classy Contemporary French/Indian cuisine restaurant called Indebleu near Chinatown/MCI Center in Washington DC.

The restaurant has a nice ambience, occupying the whole building next to the bank on the intersection of 7th and G street. They have valet parking but since it was a long weekend most of the metered parking were available so ended up parking a block away from the restaurant.

I was little skeptical if their would be anything vegetarian on the Menu so I inquired when I called for reservation. The person to whom I spoke was very courteous and she did inform me that they have few dishes for vegetarian on the Menu and also the chef could cook any particular dish as requested. The restaurant had a Contemporary theme and it nicely fitted the theme simple & elegant.

The Menu has 2 categories, starters & main course, served as 3-course/4-course meal. We ended up with a 4-course dinner. The exciting part was the desert. Gulab-jamun served with cinnamon favored ice cream where the ice cream is brought to your table in a spaghetti-making machine and pressed into your plates. From the start to the finish we enjoyed out dinner experience.

Now coming to the title. All the people who worked inside were dressed up in black attire. The waiter & waitress seemed to be from UK from their dialect. The Managers were also dressed up in black. They made sure that the people @ the table were not left to stare @ empty glasses or finished plates. Food was on dot, one course after another. No delays. So the title Men In Black, excellent co-ordination with all the staff to keep the customers happy and enjoy their dining experience and have a wonderful evening @ Indebleu.

Price - $100 plus for dinner of two.
Dressing – Casual but would not recommend t-shirt & sneakers.
Reservation – must.
Rating – Very good.

Over all, we loved the dining @ Indebleu and would suggest if you looking to take someone out for a special occasion. We had been to couple of Indian fusion restaurants in DC, Philli & NYC area, but this would top our list next to Tamarind in NYC.

Dec 24th - Happy Birthday my Dear Wife !!!
