My Encounter

November 22nd, 2005 by Aparna

There are few things that always make me remember of my initial days in US. The one I often think was my first experience of ordering a cup of coffee, I am a coffee lover, having hailed from Kumbakonam…yeh yeh goes without saying right.Have u ever thought an order of a cup of coffee will ever bring your magnificent decision making quality. While ordering my first coffee, I heard a question from the person who took the order, Hey u want Caf or De caf? Whole milk, 2% or Half & Half? Which size, small, grande or tall? Everything in a second which made me to speculate the first question.. The person behind me would have been very happy if I had stepped aside and try to recollect the qns and prepare my answers and get back to the line. Helplessly I looked for the person who had put me in this gutsy situation, yes my husband..I spotted him..there he was ..in fried chicken queue. Somehow ordered or blabbered, and ended up having a dreadful coffee, the accolade for not knowing the gizmo coffee terminologies. ..while enjoying my blabberings, yes everything put inside the cup, my coffee, I looked up the menu board and amazed. An order of coffee should tell whether u want with or without Caffeine, what kind of milk/cream u would like in that. that is whole milk which is rich in fat, half and half, half fat..2% milk with 2% fat. it goes like this. Yes big deal with carbs and fat here.

These are all for regular coffee and there is a big list of other coffee drinks, cappuccino, frappucino, coffee mocha. What not? Whenever I step inside a coffee shop, I used to smile inside of my first stumble with US coffee.hey now I mastered in that and my favourite coffee drink is called Misto which typically tastes like our filter coffee..yes..the one thing I miss much .. filter coffee and “The Hindu” newspaper..Nothing could beat that combo!!
